What are “intersections?” Perhaps the question isn't what are intersections as much as why we use the word "intersections" in our vision statement. Intersections are where two or more paths cross. We also see "intersections" where faith and life meet everyday. As "people with a purpose" we live everyday with an openness to discovering the intersections of life with faith. Faith really is code-word for speaking of our relationship to Jesus; faith is not a head-thing as much as it is a heart-thing. As people of faith, we live expecting that there will be moments in our lives when the Holy will break mysteriously into on lives. Sometimes it is more like "nudging" into our lives, a certain subtlety like the hint of a breeze on a hot day. We don't have to wait for a weekly gathering like worship or small group (though those are good places for us to experience Jesus!); we know that there is no place we go that Jesus is not with us. There are moments when we can feel that Presence and those moments are "intersections," where two paths meet. Sometimes while driving we pass through intersections without even taking notice of the road we're crossing because we are so focused on our current direction. Sometimes in life we pass through intersections with Jesus without noticing as well. The word "intersections" captures the possibilities that come with every interaction, every crossing of paths, every unexpected encounter. Intersections are opportunities to make connections and that is what we see in our everyday living: chances to make connections. |
